Well, because schools don’t teach about chakras in western medicine, it is unsurprising we struggle with the concept of chakras in health and healing. Don’t worry – it’s totally normal! Put simply, chakras are centres in the body where we see and feel energy concentrate. There are 7 major chakras in the body, and lots of other smaller ones. They also seems to somehow link up with certain emotions, issues and areas of development in the body.
The chakras are interesting, because they are epicentres of emotion and energy. For instance, the throat chakra is all about self expression and speaking up for who you truly are. We can develop issues in these key areas that may be linked to what we are feeling and experiencing in our lives.
Reiki uses this same bio-electrical natural energy that’s naturally within our bodies to ‘wash’ through each chakra in ‘waves’. These reiki waves of energy stimulate the human body to regenerate and reset back to natural health. It seems from studies to indicate an immune response linked to raising white blood cells as well. It’s good to provide an example to help us picture this. For instance, it’s similar to scrubbing a dirty dish after dinner, you might put water and some washing up liquid in but then put the lid on, shake it, and the force of the water sloshing around actually flushes off the remnants of food much quicker and easier, making for a cleaner dish again.
Reiki uses your own bio-electrical energy to create ‘waves’ that reset your chakras. Another example, is when medics shock patients’ hearts in hospital to stop them, in order to give the heart a chance to REBOOT and RESTART itself. Your body has evolved to do this. Reiki energy restarts our human bodies healing… and I guarantee it’s a much more relaxing and enjoyable health maintenance practice than leaving it to the paddles!
Yes, or at least they get blocked as problems occur.
For example, here’s a client who had reiki for a blocked chakra:
One lady I worked with kept getting sore throats over and over for years. The throat chakra (in Eastern medicine) is where we express ourselves from. It turned out in the session, as we chatted, she revealed her boss was quite a bully to her. As the healing reiki flowed through the session, After the reiki healing session, she made a decision out of the blue to leave her current job and move to a different post she believed she could move to that was also a bit more creative. She also wrote up an email to the director explaining what she’d had to put up with under her boss, and she felt she needed to do this to ‘protect further employees and her to educate [boss’s name] on how she’d made me feel inside’.
Her regular sore throat completely healed and stopped repeating. Her body was trying to get her attention to change this aspect as it could detect (using our amazing brains which are thousands of years old) that there was repetitive stress affecting her body and producing cortisol (the major stress hormone that creates long term damage in our organs). We have to remember, none of this is new stuff. Our ancestors would have listened to these ailments and seen them as signs, trying new things where necessary. Reiki simply realigns us to our bodies, and helps us feel and therefore heal. The lady has consequently grown in her confidence and ability to express herself in her new position. She is now doing great and is a very successful woman.
Reiki works to heal these chakras which in turn, heal us. We heal holistically – which means not just physically working on the problem, but emotionally, sexually and spiritually healing as well, from within.
You can read more about each chakra on the ‘about your chakras’ page, and some of the information on the chakras might resonate with you. If this happens, it might be that you can work on that particular area and improve your health. You can do this for yourself (I will talk more about this later) or you can ask a healer (such as myself) to flow this energy through you (a reiki healing session).
